How will you use the Technical Codes in your final product? - Pio George

3 Point Lighting

- Three Point Lighting is a method used in visual media such as video, film, still photography and computer-generated imagery. It forms the basis of most lighting. The 3 point lighting uses three lights called the key light, fill light and back light.

Key Light

- This is the main light. It is usually the strongest and has the most influence on the look of the scene. It is placed to one side of the camera/subject so that this side is well lit and the other side has some shadow.

Fill Light

- This is the secondary light and is placed on the opposite side of the key light. It is used to fill the shadows created by the key. The fill will usually be softer and less bright than the key. To acheive this, you could move the light further away or use some spun. You might also want to set the fill light to more of a flood than the key.

Back Light

- The back light is placed behind the subject and lights it from the rear. Rather than providing direct lighting (like the key and fill), its purpose is to provide definition and subtle highlights around the subject's outlines. This helps separate the subject from the background and provide a three-dimensional look.

- 3 Point Lighting can have the effect of catching the audiences eye. As lighting tends to highlight what is most important in a particular scene.
- Also, lighting can be distracting as it can focus on unimportant areas. To stop this, a flag can be used to remove the light. A flag is a device used in lighting for filming or photography to block light.

- Our group can use 3 Point Lighting to show what is most important in certain scenes of our thriller opening, and it can also give clues to the audience to get an idea of the opening or to reveal something about a character.
- Also, we can use the lighting to only highlight the characters importance and nothing else.

Rule of Thirds

Rule of thirds is where photos are divided into thirds with two imaginary lines vertically and two lines horizontally making three columns, three rows and nine sections in the images. The important elements or images are placed on or near the imaginary lines and where the lines meet.

- Our group can use Rule of Thirds in our thriller opening to show what is the most important object or person is in different scenes, as it would enable us to give an idea for the audience on what to look out for in our thriller opening.
- It can also draw the audience in on specific details e.g. hand, pen or face.

Sound, Lighting and Balance

Sound
- For our thriller opening we could either enhance or decrease the sound.
- As, an enahnced sound will allow us to keep the audience more aware of the background noises such as footsteps. Even the main characters voice can be increased which would enable their voice to be much louder and they would have the full attention of the audience.
- Also, by decreasing the sound, we can have a opening with normal levels of sound from the characters and the background noises would be more silent.

Lighting
- We adjust the settings of the camera, to increase the lighting in the camera so that the shots it takes will be brighter. Also, we are able to adjust the camera, to decrease the lighting so that shots would be darker.
